After losing to Nardico, LaMotta retired before returning for three more fights in 1954. After knocking out Dick Turpin and Lucien Krawczyk in non-title bouts, Cerdan faced Jake LaMotta (83-19-4, 30 KOs) for the belt at Detroits Briggs Stadium on June 16, 1949. Chaos erupted after the decision was announced. In spite of his injury and in spite of a severe beating in the first round Cerdan won the second round big and the third and fifth by lesser margins. LaMotta landed a right to Robinson's head and a left to his body, sending him through the ropes. Cerdan and LaMotta attired in boxing trunks, boots and gloves. Rounds five and six are center-of-the-ring slugfests, each fighter giving as good as he gets, hitting, dancing away, coming back to give and get some more, both avoiding the killing zone that are the ropes and corners. Due to his hard style of fighting, LaMotta often took as much as he dished out in an era of great middleweights. Raging Bull: My Story is a 1970 second edition of LaMotta's memoir. At the fourth bell, the Clouter appears to follow his usual angry-bees approach to devastation and victory. LaMotta won the World Middleweight title on June 16, 1949, in Detroit, Michigan, defeating Frenchman Marcel Cerdan.
